Aina Ibrahim

Aina is a Maldivian artist living in Sydney, Australia. She moved to Sydney in 2015, with just her mother and brother ( see: Aai'laa ) at a time of political unrest in the Maldives. Growing up in the later years of a 30 year dictatorship, she had an understanding of the censorship, propaganda, violence and hardships that effected families across the country (including hers). This informs her work as they often involve an assessment of her socio-cultural and political surroundings with a comedic undertone.

She is a multi-disciplinary artist that uses her illustrative skill and visual imagery throughout a variety of media. Her most recent work is the Pandemic Diaries (2021), a narrative on the events during the Coronavirus outbreaks in New South Wales.
